  • HEART HEALTH: “How to Love Your Heart” is the topic of a talk by cardiologist Dr. Emmett Chapital to be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday in the main conference room of New Orleans East Hospital, 5620 Read Blvd. “Our goal this Heart Month is to raise awareness of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, a leading cause of death among African-Americans in this community,” said Dr. Takeisha Davis, CEO of the hospital.
  • DIABETES MANAGEMENT: Dr. Kathy Carstarphen, a New Orleans internist, will discuss diabetes self-management skills at 10 a.m. March 3, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie. This event, held in conjunction with the Jefferson Parish Office of Senior Services, is free of charge and is open to the public. There is no registration. Topics for the presentation will include nutrition, meal planning, carbohydrate counting, insulin management and insulin pump management.

Topics for the presentation will include healthful eating, physical activity, handling emergencies and preventing complications.
