NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans police are investigating the death of a 21-year-old skateboarder as a possible hit-and-run incident.

A motorist called for help at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday after finding the skateboarder unresponsive on the side of an Interstate 10 service road in eastern New Orleans.

An emergency medical team tried to provide aid, but the skateboarder was pronounced dead at the scene.

The skateboarder’s identity was not immediately released.

Police say in a news release that investigator Edgar Edwards believes a vehicle was traveling north on the service road when it struck the skateboarder and fled the area. There were no witnesses, and the type of vehicle wasn’t known.
