Officials at a Treme school called paramedics for a gunshot victim after he was found on the campus Tuesday afternoon.

The 22-year-old victim was shot in the leg about 11:45 a.m. near the 1300 block of North Derbigny Street, close to Joseph S. Clark Preparatory School, said Officer Frank Robertson, a Police Department spokesman.

The shooting did not happen on school grounds, police said.

After the shooting, Clark officials began to lock down the campus, said Dominique Harris, a spokeswoman for FirstLine Schools, which operates Clark.

The victim was able to get onto the school grounds through a back gate moments before the lock down went into place, Harris said.

School officials saw the victim and brought him to an area where paramedics treated him, Harris said.
