One killed, one injured in N.O. East shooting

A woman was killed and a man was wounded in a shooting Tuesday afternoon in New Orleans East, police said.

Gunfire was reported a little after 3 p.m. at Dwyer Road and Shalimar Drive.

Police found the body of a 23-year-old woman, whose name was not immediately available, inside a silver Volvo, said Officer Garry Flot, a Police Department spokesman. A 20-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound in the back.

Police canvassed a crime scene that was about three blocks long and littered with shell casings.

Investigators did not immediately identify a suspect or motive.

Man found dead on Interstate 10 in Kenner

A man was found dead Monday night along Interstate 10 in Kenner following a hit-and-run accident.

Drivers reported the man was struck in the eastbound lanes about 8:20 p.m., said Sgt. Brian McGregor, a Kenner Police Department spokesman.

The victim carried no ID and has not been identified. Investigators are trying to determine his name through fingerprints and DNA.

He wore a gray T-shirt, brown checkered shorts and white-and-tan tennis shoes.

Meanwhile, police are looking for a white tractor-trailer truck that did not have a trailer attached at the time and was headed east on the interstate when the accident happened.

Suspect booked in slaying of N.O. teen

Jefferson Parish authorities have arrested a man suspected of gunning down a 16-year-old New Orleans youth over the weekend in Harvey.

Terrance Hudson, 18, was booked Tuesday on a count of second-degree murder, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Investigators allege he killed Maurcell Mitchell about 9 p.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of Angus Drive.

Authorities found Hudson at his grandfather’s home in the 2900 block of Skidmore Drive in Marrero, where he was arrested without incident.

Suspect in burglaries, theft found, booked

New Orleans police have arrested a man suspected in two recent burglaries and a theft.

David Steadman, 47, was arrested Monday near Clara and Thalia streets, police said.

One incident in which he is suspected happened about 10 a.m. Nov. 23.

Officers responding to a report of a burglary in the 6100 block of Stratford Place in Algiers spoke to a woman who said copper pipes in her house were cut and stolen, along with several other items.

Steadman also was identified as a suspect in a burglary July 6 in the 3300 block of Dickens Drive and a theft Oct. 6 in the 6300 block of Dover Place.

N.O. police investigate two nonfatal shootings

New Orleans police on Tuesday were investigating the following nonfatal shootings:

  • 8:50 p.m. Monday at Curran and Read boulevards: A man arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound. Detectives later determined the shooting took place at Curran and Read.
  • 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 4900 block of Bright Drive: A man was shot. No other details were immediately available.

Three suspected of robbing teen of phone

Two Slidell teens and one from New Orleans were booked Monday after they allegedly robbed a fourth teen of his cellphone, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Suzanne Carboni said.

Bernard Brown Jr., 19, of Slidell; Maquise Cordier, 17, of New Orleans; and an unnamed 16-year-old are accused of following a 17-year-old home from a fast-food restaurant in Slidell. When the victim entered the courtyard of his apartment complex, the three teens robbed him of his phone and fled, Carboni said.

Deputies found the trio at Brown’s home, where they were arrested. All three were booked on first-degree robbery counts, while the two older teens also face counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

N.O. police investigate three armed robberies

New Orleans police on Tuesday were investigating the following armed robberies reported on an overnight crime log:

  • 1:40 p.m. Monday at Montpelier and Clermont streets: The victim told police three men walked up to him and demanded his money. The men ran away after taking his belongings.
  • 9:10 p.m. Monday in the 13600 block of Chef Menteur Highway: Three men got out of a car and demanded two victims hand over their belongings. The victims complied, and the robbers fled.
  • 2:25 a.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of St. Ferdinand Street: An unknown man walked up to the victims and demanded their belongings. The victims complied, and the robber sped away in a black vehicle.
