  • PARKINSON’S SUPPORT: Audiologist Joe Griffith will offer hearing screenings when the Big Easy Fleur de Lis Parkinson’s Disease Support Group meets from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday in the Esplanade 1 Room of the Conference Center at East Jefferson General Hospital, 4300 Houma Blvd., Metairie. There also will be a demonstration of a CaptionCall telephone that provides written captions of what callers say on a screen. The telephone service is funded by the Federal Communications Commission and is free for people with hearing loss. The group, which meets on the last Monday of each month, welcomes Parkinson’s patients and their families, friends and caregivers. Participants share tips and tricks for easier living with Parkinson’s disease, and news about medications, treatments and Parkinson’s research. There is no fee. The meeting will have a luau beach party theme, including an exhibit of watermelon carvings made at home. Island attire is suggested. The next meeting, on Aug. 31, will feature an ice cream social. For information about the group, contact Bonnie Huddleston at (504) 905-6355 or bonhudd4417@gmail.com.
