A police officer held a woman back as she sprinted toward the scene of a fatal shooting in Hollygrove on Monday afternoon.

“He’s gone!” the woman shouted. “Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God. They took him.”

Authorities have not identified the victim, only describing him so far as a man in his 40s. He was shot outside of a home in the 3600 block of Hollygrove Street at about 2:30 p.m., the fourth man shot to death in New Orleans this month.

One man who was working nearby at the time of the shooting said the victim had been barbecuing in his front yard just before he was hit. The man said he did not see the shooting but heard eight to 10 shots.

Police placed more than 10 evidence markers around a barbecue smoker in a front lawn.
