One woman was shot during an armed robbery and 75-year-old woman was beaten up during a carjacking in separate incidents late Tuesday in New Orleans.
Police said the first crime happened near the corner of Versailles Boulevard and Fontainebleau Drive about 10:45 p.m. A man wearing a blue bandanna over his face with a semi-automatic gun approached a 32-year-old woman, according to police.
The man tried to take the woman’s purse but she fought back, police said, bringing out a kitchen knife and swinging it at him. He fired, striking her in the back of the neck, then fled, police said.
The woman’s purse and wallet were both taken, according to Dawne Massey, a New Orleans Police Department spokeswoman.
Then around 11:30 p.m., according to police, a 75-year-old woman in the 4200 block of Dumaine Street, not far from City Park, was approached by two young men who beat her up and took a cellphone and her car.
The woman was taken to the hospital, according to authorities. Police are looking for her car, which is royal blue 2005 Toyota Avalon, with Saints license plate #14566, as well as damages to the rear passenger quarter panel and front driver side.
