An Algiers man suspected in the Thursday night killing of a 28-year-old woman was arrested Friday morning at a hotel near Broussard, just south of Lafayette, State Police said.

Abbie Head, 62, is accused of fatally shooting the woman just after 9 p.m. Thursday in front of an Algiers home in the 1500 block of Gen. Collins Avenue, the New Orleans Police Department reported.

State Police received information from the NOPD about 4 a.m. Friday that Head was believed to be in the Broussard area and was armed and suicidal, State Police spokesman Brooks David said.

Head was located at a local hotel later Friday morning and was arrested without incident, David said. He was booked on a count of second-degree murder at the St. Martin Parish Jail, where he’ll be held until he’s transported back to New Orleans, David said.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Lindsey Crain.

Head shot the woman twice with a shotgun before fleeing the scene in his pickup, said Officer Frank Robertson, an NOPD spokesman.

The two were having an argument in the driveway of the home, where the woman had gone to visit with a family member, Robertson said.
