UNO ALUMNI: The University of New Orleans International Alumni Association will award its 2015 UNO Homer L. Hitt Distinguished Alumni Award to Roy Glapion on Nov. 5 as part of UNO’s 2015 Alumni Week.
Glapion is a professional engineer who earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from UNO in 1987. He is currently vice president of The Beta Group, an engineering and construction firm that specializes in materials testing. Previously, he served as co-founder and president of Citywide Testing and Inspections Inc., where he employed more than 100 people across southeast Louisiana. Under his leadership, the company provided crucial services to numerous economic development and public infrastructure projects that affected business and government sectors across the region.
In addition to his successes in business, Glapion serves as chairman of the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission. He is a member of the boards of directors of the UNO Research and Technology Foundation, the Delgado Foundation, the New Orleans Regional Black Chamber of Commerce and the United Negro College Fund New Orleans Leadership Council, among others. He is a Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame laureate and a recipient of the Young Leadership Council’s Role Model Award and the UNO Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Service Award.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY: Cari Jane Roussel, of LaPlace, has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the nation’s only interdisciplinary honors organization for first-year and second-year college students. Membership is by invitation only, based on grade-point average and class standing. Roussel also was named to the Dean’s List at Auburn University for spring 2015.
