  • MEDICAL ASSISTANTS: Seventeen students recently completed the tuition-free “MA Now” career-training program for medical assistants. The program is a project of Ochsner Health System and Delgado Community College that creates opportunities for current Ochsner employees and external candidates to develop skills they need to move forward in their careers. The four-month training program features accelerated classroom, clinical and on-the-job training and addresses a need for certified medical assistants and to build additional career pathways. More than 550 medical assistants are part of the Ochsner team; they are typically the first and last to see a patient, taking vitals and translating patients’ concerns to the physician before circling back at the end of the appointment to take questions and schedule follow-ups. MA Now graduates who have accepted new roles with Ochsner include Imani Anderson, West Bank OB; Ronisha Burton, OB/GYN; Carmonique Carter, neurology; Dominique Carter, PRN cardiology; Daphne Davis, MA float pool; Courtney Franklin, dermatology; Erica Griffin, MA float pool; Simone Kimble, psychology; Kimberly Matthews; China Miller: colon-rectal; Reonda Newton, neurology; LaShawn Patterson, hepatology; Taleskia Ross; Jalesa Treaudo, internal medicine; Lakecia Variste, PRN transplant; Marica Warner; and Ida Wright.
