Sculpture, mosaic students create community gift _lowres

A fantastical and dramatic sculptural “Lotus” bench was completed and installed at the Universal Garden park at St. Claude Avenue and Spain Street in the St. Claude arts district.

The bench was a gift to the community by local artist Laurel True, a mosaic artist and instructor. The sculptural bench is made of rebar, lath, wire and concrete, and finished in mirror, ceramic tile and glass.

The bench was created by students who participated in two classes, one for learning to create large-scale concrete forms and the second for learning how to lay three-dimensional mosaics.
