OUR LADY OF WISDOM: Sister Lucie Leonard, a manager in the pastoral care department of Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center, has received the Distinguished Service Award from LeadingAge Gulf South.

Also, Elouise Cook, a certified nursing assistant, has received the Caring Hands Award from the LeadingAge association.

LeadingAge is an association of 6,000 nonprofit organizations dedicated to expanding the world of possibilities for aging. It advances policies, promotes practices and conducts research that supports, enables and empowers people to live fully as they age.

Leonard assists in managing the pastoral care department at Our Lady of Wisdom, which supports the spiritual needs of residents and also is responsible for all department communications, among other duties.

Cook was honored for caregiving contributions that go above and beyond the call of duty. She has demonstrated outstanding compassion for residents, while maintaining a persistent, positive attitude and a spirit of respect and support for co-workers.

OSTOMY SPEAKER: Dr. David E. Beck will be the guest speaker when the Greater New Orleans Ostomy Association meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at East Jefferson General Hospital. Beck works in the department of colon and rectal surgery at Ochsner Clinic.

PARENTS OF TROUBLED ADULTS: A presentation on “Is Al-Anon for You?” will be presented during the meeting of a support group for parents of troubled adults from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12. The group is sponsored by Jewish Family Service and Jewish Children’s Regional Service. It offers help and hope to parents whose adult children suffer from depression, mental illness, addiction disorders and other difficulties.
