Slidell police are investigating the death of a dog that was discovered with a bag around its head Monday evening when police responded to a possible residential burglary.

The homeowner had received recent threats on social media, according to police, and there had been a vandalism incident at the house two days earlier. Police did not give the location of the house.

Detective Michael Giardina sought the assistance of Slidell Animal Control, and the dog’s body was preserved as evidence.

“This is not a common occurrence and is something we aren’t familiar with,” Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith said. “We contacted the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine to see what our options were.”

The LSU school is conducting a necropsy; results are expected by the end of the week.
