A combination of Coast Guard crewmembers and Good Samaritans rescued 35 people from a sinking houseboat on Lake Pontchartrain on Saturday night.
Around 9:30 p.m., the Coast Guard reported it received a mayday call from a houseboat that was taking on water in its engine room. The houseboat was tied to Causeway bridge pilings when a storm hit.
One Coast Guard crew -- with an assist from a Good Samaritan -- evacuated people from the boat while another crew pumped water out the boat and towed it to an area marina.
No injuries were reported.
