Two homicide victims identified by coroner
Dr. Jeffrey Rouse, the Orleans Parish coroner, on Monday identified victims of two fatal shootings.
Rouse said that Rudy Benavidez Zamora, 23, was the victim of a shooting at South Salcedo and Baudin streets about 7 p.m. Saturday.
Police said Zamora was getting out of his car when two men tried to rob a nearby friend. One of the robbers fired a gun, striking Benavidez, police said. He died at the scene.
Rouse said Vanessa King, 54, was the victim of a separate shooting in the 2500 block of Dumaine Street about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. King was found unresponsive and taken to the hospital, where she died.
Four shot within minutes Sunday night
Four people were shot in the course of a bloody few minutes Sunday night, New Orleans police said.
A man was shot about 9 p.m. in the 4200 block of Washington Avenue. The victim, 27, ran from the scene after being shot in the right arm.
Minutes later, a 39-year-old man was shot in both legs in the 2100 block of Lizardi Street in the Lower 9th Ward.
At about the same time in New Orleans East, a 33-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were shot near Chef Menteur Highway and Downman Road. Police said the incident was preceded by a confrontation between two groups of women but that a man did the shooting.
Man shot Monday evening on St. Claude
A man arrived at a hospital Monday evening with a gunshot wound to the arm, police said. He said he was shot in the 4200 block of St. Claude Avenue.
Two women carjacked in Upper 9th Ward
New Orleans police said a 69-year-old woman was carjacked in the 2000 block of Independence Street before 9 a.m. Sunday. The victim was approached by an armed man who made her hand over her keys and other property. He drove away in her car.
Another woman, 28, also was carjacked in the Upper 9th Ward in the 3300 block of North Rocheblave Street about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, police said. An armed man forced her to hand over her property and vehicle, authorities said. The vehicle was discovered a short time later.
Woman cut Sunday morning in Harvey
A woman was cut in the 2900 block of Manhattan Boulevard in Harvey about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said. Her injuries were not life-threatening.
