A woman arrested in connection with the Drug Enforcement Agency’s six-month “Wild Wild East” operation earlier this year pleaded guilty to drug charges, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite said Thursday.

New Orleans resident Beth Marie Nguyen, 38, pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than a kilogram of heroin.

U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier will sentence Nguyen on Nov. 12. She is facing a maximum of life imprisonment and a $10 million fine.

Nguyen was one of 12 defendants charged in a 23-count indictment on July 25. According to court documents, the indictment sprang from an investigation into a heroin-trafficking organization operating in New Orleans East. This organization was responsible for distributing at least 15 kilograms of heroin in the New Orleans area.
