A Marrero woman whose body was found Saturday morning in the Barataria Waterway died from blunt-force injuries, an autopsy determined, prompting Jefferson Parish detectives to open a homicide investigation.

The remains of 48-year-old Tracy Eskine were spotted about 7 a.m. near Glisson Park in Crown Point, the authorities said, and patrol officers, aided by a passing boater, took the body to a boat launch. Investigators determined the body had only been in the water for a short time.

Col. John Fortunato, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, said no motive has been determined in the killing. He said detectives also do not have any suspects.

Eskine was found wearing only a red-and-black blouse with a leopard print bra and socks, Fortunato said.

Fortunato acknowledged “similarities” between the death of Eskine and the strangling last month of another woman, Nicole Liebert Messon, whose body was found on the side of the road in Avondale. But he said authorities do not believe the cases to be related at this time.

Sheriff’s officials asked anyone with information about the case to contact Detective Jeffery Rodrigue at (504) 364-5300.
