The year is 1899, Mardi Gras celebrations are underway, and you are invited to the Calypso Ball, but when a man in a gold mask takes a fatal tumble, it’s quickly realized that a devious plot is afoot and your help is needed to unmask the killers. Be a part of this fun live action whodunit murder mystery party at the Algiers Regional Library, 3014 Holiday Drive, from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Thursday, June 26. Costumes are encouraged but not required; masks will be provided, or bring your own. This event is part of our summer programs for adults. Wine and refreshments will be provided.

Join Ashley Charbonnet, of the New Orleans Video Access Center, for a deeper look at short films, how they vary and why they work at the third installment of the 2014 Screenwriting Series, “Slice of Life: Understanding the Short.” The program will be at the Rosa F. Keller Library and Community Center, 4300 S. Broad St., from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26.

If you do not have a plan for protecting your assets while you are alive and controlling who receives the benefit of your assets after you die, then Louisiana has a plan ... and you may not like it. William Perry, a Tulane Law graduate who lives and practices law in New Orleans, will explain the basics of Louisiana’s plan and options for making a plan of your own at the program “Wills & Trusts 101: Basic Estate Planning in Louisiana,” at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 26.

All New Orleans Public Library programs and events are free and open to the public.
