A Covington man led St. Tammany Parish sheriff’s deputies on a chase Wednesday before crashing into a downtown Covington business, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.

Deputies were trying to arrest Marlon Brumfield, 27, about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when he fled in a pickup. He drove south on La. 21 to Interstate 12, where he headed east.

He exited the interstate at U.S. 190 and headed north into Covington, where he crashed into a shopping center on Boston Street and fled on foot.

Deputies tracked him down and arrested him.

Brumfield was booked on a number of courts, including aggravated obstruction of a highway, possession of marijuana, criminal damage to property and possession with intent to distribute illegal drugs.
