A Baptist youth minister accused of molesting two teenage boys while they were sleeping turned himself in to New Orleans police about 10:45 a.m. Friday, according to a Police Department spokesman.

Police believe Ryan Scott Rodgers, 36, groomed his male teenage victims by buying them underwear and having them over for sleepovers. The boys woke up to find Rodgers fondling them, police said. The abuse is believed to have gone on for more than a year.

Rodgers was on the loose for about a day and a half after police announced Wednesday evening they were looking for him.

NOPD Detective Stephanie Taillon had said she believed he was moving from hotel to hotel to evade police.

Although Rodgers was a 2011 graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in Gentilly, that institution put out a statement Thursday saying he had no ongoing affiliation with it.

Police believe Rodgers also worked with youths at churches in Jefferson and Plaquemines parishes and urged anyone with further information to call Taillon at (504) 658-5753.

Rodgers has been booked on seven counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile as well as simple battery and sexual battery. He is being held at Orleans Parish Prison.
