Violence erupts at Metairie daiquiris shop when man attacks victim with machete _lowres

Police booked Akando Ducksworth, 32, for an alleged machete attack, which happened at 5260 Veterans Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

A Daiquiris & Creams shop on Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie exploded into violence Saturday night when one man attacked another with a machete and nearly severed his thumb, police said.

Police booked Akando Ducksworth, 32, for the alleged machete attack, which happened at 5260 Veterans Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. According to police, Ducksworth was dancing inside the establishment with his girlfriend then went outside and started talking to another man on the patio.

Ducksowrth and the victim started arguing. Deputies said that video surveillance showed Ducksworth run away, then return to the shop with a machete in his hand. Back inside the bar, he attacked the victim with the blade.

The victim received three large lacerations on his left shoulder, deputies said, two more on his head, and his right thumb was nearly severed by a cut that sliced through his hand’s tendon, muscle, and broke a bone in the thumb. Ducksworth received a cut on his left arm.

Ducksworth, who lives in Metairie, has been booked with aggravated second degree battery.
