Police seek info in Rampart St. robbery

NEW ORLEANS — Police have asked for the public’s help in finding a man wanted in the robbery of a woman Saturday morning in the French Quarter.

The victim was walking to her vehicle about 6 a.m. in a parking garage in the 200 block of North Rampart Street when a man stopped her and took her cellphone, the New Orleans Police Department said in a news release.

When the robber demanded cash, the victim said she didn’t have any. The subject rooted through the woman’s purse and took her money, the release says.

When other customers entered the garage, they scared the robber, and he ran onto Iberville Street and back into the French Quarter, the release says.

The robber is described as a black man with short hair, about 20 years old, with a medium build and complexion. He might have upper and lower gold teeth in his mouth.
