A man was shot to death in Violet early Sunday, the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office reported.
Broderick Parker, 27, of Violet was shot several times about 6:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of Licciardi Lane and was later pronounced dead at Interim LSU Hospital in New Orleans.
Parker’s death marks “the first murder in St. Bernard Parish” since October 2013, according to Sheriff James Pohlmann.
Pohlmann added that detectives are working on leads; no arrest has been made.
N.O. police report five armed robberies
Five armed robberies were reported in New Orleans between Saturday morning and Sunday morning, according to police.
About 5:30 a.m. Saturday, a 29-year-old woman was sitting in her vehicle in the driveway of her residence in the 4600 block of Perelli Drive when a man with a gun knocked on the window.
He demanded her jewelry, a designer handbag containing cash and other items. He fled in a maroon vehicle driven by an unknown second person.
A 24-year-old man and his family were the victims in the next incident, which police said happened in New Orleans East shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday.
The victim drove into a driveway in the 4900 block of Pecan Street when a man with a gun opened the driver’s side door and demanded he and his family get out of the car. The robber and two other men then fled in the vehicle.
About 1:15 a.m. Sunday, a 19-year-old man was in the 6000 block of Chef Menteur Highway when he was approached by a man who brandished a gun and demanded his property. The robber fled after he got the man’s belongings.
About 30 minutes later, a 31-year-old man was held up at gunpoint in Algiers.
Police said the man was in the parking lot of the Skyview Terrace Apartments in the 3300 block of Garden Oaks Drive when he was approached by a man with a gun. The robber fled after taking the victim’s money. He was wearing a red jacket with a hood, gray pants and dark shoes.
About 4:30 a.m. Sunday, robbers held up DMac’s Bar and Grill in Mid-City.
A 25-year-old man and a 51-year-old man told police that another man armed with a gun entered the bar in the 500 block of South Jefferson Davis Parkway and demanded money from the safe and register. He then demanded the patron and the bartender give up their property as well and fled after they complied.
Two sexual assaults reported in Algiers
An aggravated rape was reported about 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Algiers.
A woman was attacked and sexually assaulted in the 900 block of Belleville Street by a man named Chris, New Orleans police said.
Police said the woman knew her attacker.
Police also responded to a report of a sexual assault in Algiers early Sunday morning.
A woman said she was assaulted after midnight in the 2200 block of Westbend Parkway by someone she knew.
No other information was available.
Man shot Saturday on Interstate 10
A 26-year-old man was shot Saturday evening at the Morrison Road exit from Interstate 10 westbound in New Orleans East, according to police.
The man said he was driving on the interstate about 5 p.m. when he passed a blue vehicle. That vehicle then caught up with him, and as it exited the interstate, the driver shot at the man five times. He struck the victim’s car and grazed his right forearm.
