The U.S. Small Business Administration's Louisiana District Office has named Keith Porta, managing member of APC Construction LLC in Harvey, as the 2018 District Small Business Person of the Year.

Other award winners are Heidi Melancon, director of the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Small Business Development Center Excellence and Innovation Center Award; Matthew Kincaid, founder of Overcoming Racism, New Orleans, Young Entrepreneur of the Year; Mayra Pineda, president of the Hispanic Chamber of Louisiana in New Orleans, Minority Business Champion; Andrea Chen, executive director of Propeller Incubator in New Orleans, Women’s Business Champion; Cindy Carrier, senior counselor of the Louisiana Procurement Technical Assistance Center - Southeast in Denham Springs, Louisiana Small Business Advocate of the Year.

In announcing the awards, Michael Ricks, SBA Louisiana District director, said the energy and passion of small-business owners provide meaningful jobs, employing over 910,000 people representing 53 percent of Louisiana’s private sector workforce.
