The first Marathon brand gasoline station in Louisiana has opened at 4450 Airline Highway in Reserve, just across the road from Marathon Petroleum Corp.’s Garyville refinery.
The Reserve Truck Stop and Casino is one of roughly 5,200 Marathon-brand gas stations in 19 states in the Midwest and Southeast. Most are owned and operated by independent entrepreneurs
“Specifically in that area, we’re just looking for opportunities — because we do have a big employee base there — to brand some additional stations,” spokeswoman Angelia K. Graves said.
The company does not share information on the number of Marathon-branded stations it hopes to establish by state, she said. However, when it bought BP’s Texas City refinery in 2013, Marathon also got contract assignments for around 1,200 retail outlets, which moved the brand further over into Mississippi and Alabama.
“So we’re sort of pushing that way into the Southeast,” Graves said.
