The former president of Tulane University, and current author of a book about New Orleans’ resurgence, praised the city’s residents for the city’s recovery in a opinion piece on The Wall Street Journal’s website.

“Credit for the sea change post-Katrina belongs to the people — the opinionated, blogging, vociferous, committee-forming citizens of New Orleans,” Scott S. Cowen says.

Cowen is the co-author of “The Inevitable City: The Resurgence of New Orleans and The Future of Urban America”.

The city has begun a remarkable transformation since 2010, when former Mayor Ray Nagin left office. The city has become “a mecca for startups, a seedbed of social innovation, a model of school reform and a magnet for young people and families”

Other highlights include a 20 percent jump in college graduates from 2007 to 2012 and companies such as GE, Gameloft and Globalstar establishing operations.
