Seattle-based fashion retailer Nordstrom plans to bring its discount chain to The Outlet Collection at the Riverwalk in the fall.

The 35,000-square-foot location will be New Orleans’ first Nordstrom Rack store and the third to open in Louisiana, including locations at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge and Ambassador Town Center in Lafayette, which is slated to open in March.

Nordstrom Rack will anchor the downtown outlet center’s south side. The Riverwalk has more than 75 stores.

“We have been looking for more opportunities to serve customers in Louisiana and we’re excited to bring a Nordstrom Rack closer to home for customers in New Orleans,” said Geevy Thomas, Nordstrom Rack’s president. “The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk is an excellent location and we are thrilled to be a part of the retail mix.”

Mayor Mitch Landrieu called the announcement “another big win for our city” and said the store would be a welcome addition to the Riverwalk.

“We are showing the world that New Orleans can support and sustain nationally recognized retailers,” Landrieu said. “Together with the New Orleans Business Alliance, we’ve put a focus on attracting new retail to our city and this announcement is another sign that our plan is working.”
