Metairie-based State Investors Bancorp Inc., the holding company of State-Investors Bank, reported its first-quarter earnings skidded to $42,000, or 2 cents per share, from $229,000, or 9 cents per share, a year ago.

A $483,000 increase in professional fees accounted for most of the decrease in profits. State Investors partially offset those fees with a $190,000 increase in total interest income.

In April, State Investors shareholders approved a deal selling the bank to New Orleans-based First NBC Bank Holding Co. for $51 million.
