Spirit Airlines will start direct flights this fall from Louis Armstrong International Airport to Chicago and Detroit.
Starting Nov. 6, the budget airline will fly to and from those cities once a day.
The company, based in Miramar, Florida, announced the expanded service days before it is set to start nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Houston on Aug. 1.
“We are excited that Spirit continues to expand service at Armstrong International,” New Orleans Aviation Director Iftikhar Ahmad said. “The daily flights to Chicago and Detroit will offer our community a convenient, ultra-low-cost option for traveling to these cities.”
Spirit currently offers nonstop flights to Dallas/Fort Worth. Once the Chicago and Detroit routes are operating, the company will offer five direct flights from New Orleans.
