Delgado Community College has been awarded a $1.5 million GE Foundation grant that will support the school’s water and wastewater treatment program and help increase the number of certified water infrastructure workers available to the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans.

The GE Foundation will partner with Delgado Community College, the Sewerage and Water Board and the city of New Orleans to create career pathways in advanced manufacturing for hundreds of job-seekers over three years.

New Orleans, like many other cities, is beginning to experience skilled labor shortages. Nearly 40 percent of Sewerage and Water Board workers are nearing retirement eligibility. Their impending departure leaves the utility vulnerable.
