The Hotel Modern on St. Charles Avenue has been sold and will be renovated as an InterContinental-branded hotel.

InterContinental operates nine hotel brands, and the brand being adopted by the Hotel Modern wasn’t specified.

Hawkeye Hotels, a privately held hotel group with headquarters in Iowa City, Iowa, purchased Hotel Modern on Wednesday, according to a news release.

The hotel group plans to "completely renovate" Hotel Modern, which was converted from a YMCA in 2001. Once renovations are complete, the 135-room boutique hotel will reopen as an InterContinental-branded hotel, the release said.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to own and manage such an iconic hotel in New Orleans,” Ravi Patel, president and principal of Hawkeye Hotels, said in the release. “We look forward to bringing our operational and development expertise to this property to further enhance the overall experience for future guests.”

Hawkeye Hotels owns and operates more than 70 hotels across the country. It has affiliations with several major hotel brands, including Marriott, Hilton, InterContinental and Starwood.
