Florida Marine LLC has started construction on a $7.2 million expansion to its Mandeville offices, creating space for an additional 40 positions.

Florida Marine also is expanding its shipyard in Harvey, where it expects to create an additional 200 jobs.

The company is an inland marine carrier, with total employment of 900 workers.

The Mandeville expansion will add 27,500 square feet to the company’s operations, bringing its total office space to more than 55,000 square feet. The project will support 180 construction jobs.

Florida Marine relocated its corporate headquarters to Mandeville in 2001, then purchased the office building in 2004.

“We have been very happy in St. Tammany Parish and are pleased to be expanding our offices,” said Dennis A. Pasentine, the company’s owner and CEO.

The St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation has worked with Florida Marine, LLC for years through the nonprofit’s business retention program.

The expansion will create a campus-style environment with landscape architecture by Kyle and Associates and include a courtyard and outdoor cooking space for employee and customer events. The project has been designed by Greenleaf Architects and is being constructed by Kent Design Build.
