Louis Armstrong International Airport is picking up a few new flights, including direct routes from Cancun, Mexico, and Branson, Missouri, and a flight from Cincinnati with a brief layover.
Branson Air Express, a company operated by Orange Air, announced the new flights on Wednesday. They will begin May 6.
The airport has picked up a number of new flights from low-cost airlines over the past year or so, with announcements from Spirit Airlines, Alaska Airlines and PeoplExpress.
As the city prepares for construction of a new terminal, airport officials are gunning for more traffic, especially from international carriers.
Branson’s new routes bring the number of nonstop flights into New Orleans to 45.
“We welcome Branson AirExpress to New Orleans,” Mayor Mitch Landrieu said in a statement. “This airline will play a role in introducing our wonderful city to new visitors from around the country.”
