NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Plans for a new Tiffany & Co. jewelry store at New Orleans’ Canal Place are taking shape.

A $2 million building permit was issued earlier this month at the Shops at Canal Place for a renovation project to accommodate the jeweler’s move to New Orleans.

New Orleans CityBusiness reports the iconic New York-based jewelry retailer is planning to open its first location in Louisiana this fall inside the three-story shopping center at the foot of Canal Street.

The permit lists Donahue-Favret Contractors of Mandeville as the builder for the project. No other information was immediately available.

Tiffany & Co. would be joining other national luxury retailers including Brooks Brothers, Michael Kors and Saks Fifth Avenue at the Canal Street shopping center.

Known for its diamond jewelry wrapped in famed “Tiffany blue” boxes and bags, Tiffany & Co. operates more than 90 stores throughout the U.S.

In June, the company placed an advertisement on its website seeking a store director for its planned New Orleans location.
