Structural Group gains Topcor operating units

Structural Group Inc. has acquired four of the operating units within Baton Rouge-based Topcor Cos. LLC group through an asset acquisition.

Those companies are Topcor Services LLC, Topcor Offshore LLC, Topcor Augusta LLC and Topcor Mechanical LLC.

Two remaining Topcor Cos. entities — US Fusion LLC and US Railroad LLC — will continue to operate separately and not be associated with Structural Group.

Founded in 1989, Topcor provides structural restoration and protection services to the chemical, petrochemical, pulp and paper, power, municipal and federal markets, with more than 230 technicians. Structural’s strength is in the refining industry.

“Their ability to integrate technologies engineering and construction is a great added benefit to Topcor’s specialized contracting service,“ said James Baker, CEO and founder of Topcor Companies.

Baker will serve as vice president of a new division that will include the previous Topcor offices in Baton Rouge, Augusta, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina, as well as Structural’s Baton Rouge office.

Structural has other offices in Houston and Lake Charles.

“Topcor will increase our capabilities, resources, and presence in the Gulf Coast and the southeastern region of the United States,” said Peter Emmons, president and CEO of Structural Group.

Seafood advocates get $50,000 grant

The Louisiana Restaurant Association has awarded the Gulf Seafood Institute a $50,000 grant to help advocate for Gulf seafood.

“Over the past couple of years, we have spent more time advocating for equitable fishing policies and improved data collection, things important for our industry to maintain its source of supply,” said Stan Harris, CEO of the association while on a trip to Capitol Hill with GSI members. “It became clear to us there was not a central point that we could go to work with the harvesters, to work with the charter-for-hire industry, as well as the chefs and distributors. GSI gives us the opportunity to be able to do that because it convened all these different voices to advocate in a positive manner.”

UnitedHealthcare pays physician bonuses

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Louisiana awarded more than $3.4 million in bonus payments to 249 physician practices statewide for improving the quality of care for people enrolled in UnitedHealthcare’s Medicaid plans.

Physicians earning bonuses met key quality measures during a six-month period in 2015. The measures included conducting preventive health screenings; helping patients become more informed and engaged in health care decisions; and focusing on quality performance measures, such as adolescent well visits, diabetic screenings and eye exams.

UnitedHealthcare operates as a Louisiana Medicaid managed care organization under the state Department of Health and Hospitals’ Bayou Health Medicaid program.
