Smoothie King may soon be announced as the naming rights sponsor for the New Orleans Arena, according to our partners at WWL-TV, who cite sources.
The Pelicans have called a press conference for Thursday morning, and it’s believed a naming rights sponsor will be unveiled for the NBA team’s home arena.
Smoothie King was founded in Kenner in 1973 and now has more than 700 locations across the country and worldwide. In July, South Korean businessman Wan Kim purchased Smoothie King, which was operating out of Covington.
Kim considered moving it out of Louisiana; however, he decided to relocate to Metairie instead. It’s possible Smoothie King’s commitment to the New Orleans area will strengthen if the company does indeed end up with the arena’s naming rights.
Neither Smoothie King nor the Pelicans have commented on the report.
