What would an LSU beer taste like? We have an answer.

Tin Roof Brewing Company announced Thursday that its officially licensed LSU beer, Bayou Bengal, is a premium American lager.

Last month, Tin Roof reached out to LSU fans and members of the community to participate in a blind tasting panel to choose the style of the future Bayou Bengal beer. A limited number of applicants were chosen; and the panel sampled from eight test batches in mid-June.

“Each recipe was designed with the types of activities that LSU fans enjoy, such as tailgating and grilling out,” William McGehee, co-founder of Tin Roof Brewing Company said in May.

The winning beer was the testers’ favorite, by far, the brewer said.

Rivers Hughey, director of marketing and special events at Tin Roof, said everyone who applied to be on the tasting panel will be invited to a pre-release party “so they can be the first to taste Bayou Bengal.”

Others will get their chance soon enough, the brewer said. Tin Roof plans to start brewing Bayou Bengal as soon as possible, hoping to have the beer in the public’s hands by the first LSU football game.
