The SpeedNews 6th Annual Aerospace Manufacturing Conference will be held for the first time in New Orleans on May 1 and 2. Louisiana Economic Development and the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility of New Orleans are serving as premier sponsors of the event.

LED is putting up $25,000 to serve as a sponsor for the conference.

The conference, which will be based out of the Omni Royal Orleans, will cover topics such as innovation within manufacturing, contemporary machining technologies, automation, manufacturing capabilities and aerospace trends. In previous years, the conference has been held in Dearborn, Michigan; Mobile, Alabama; and Palos Verdes, California.

Don Pierson, LED secretary, said the conference is an opportunity to meet with experts in the aerospace industry and learn about advances in manufacturing and engineering.

“Aviation and aerospace are world-class industries in Louisiana, where we manufacture NASA’s Space Launch System and build the Orion space capsule," Pierson said. "Louisiana’s advanced infrastructure and logistics, top-ranked state workforce development program, and strategic industry and higher education partnerships have helped create a thriving advanced manufacturing sector."
