The site of a former Taco Bell restaurant on South Claiborne Avenue that had a second act as a Korean restaurant is now being developed as a Mattress Firm location.

The site, 3301 S. Claiborne Ave., is at the corner of Toledano Street.

Plans call for demolishing the former restaurant to build a 4,000-square-foot store, according to paperwork filed with the city.

The property is owned by The Palm of N.O. LLC, which shares a mailing address with Soniat Realty Inc. of New Orleans.

“We’ve got a strong street presence, and we believe this building will represent this corridor pretty well,” said David Bailey, a representative for the developer, D3 Claiborne LLC.

However, the City Planning Commission’s Design Advisory Committee voted Wednesday to defer a decision on the plan after some discussion over whether the store’s entrance should face Claiborne rather than Toledano.
