Stirling Properties has opened an office in Pensacola, Florida, the company’s first location in the Sunshine State.

The Pensacola office comes about a year after Stirling opened a location in Mobile, Alabama.

Covington-based Stirling has 10 other offices in Louisiana and Mississippi. The privately held company was founded in 1975.

Will Barrios, vice president and regional manager for Alabama and Florida, said the location will allow Stirling to serve clients as far away as Tallahassee.

“Coming from Alabama, we felt like we could do better with somebody in the area, with the ability to go to the local Board of Realtors meetings and public hearings,” Barrios said. To that end, Jason Scott, a senior sales and leasing executive who was born and raised in the Pensacola area, is moving over from the Mobile office.

“Jason is local, and we always want local,” Barrios said. “He knows what is going on in the market and who the leaders are in the community.”

Stirling is transferring the full-time management and leasing of SunTrust Tower, a nine-story, 95,000-square-foot office building in downtown Pensacola, from the Mobile office. Stirling’s office will be in the SunTrust Tower.

Pensacola is a lot like other cities along the Gulf Coast, with an economy based on the military and the health care industry. The city is home for the Naval Air Station Pensacola and a hub of activity for the Navy Federal Credit Union, the world’s largest federal credit union.

“The Navy Federal Credit Union has an enormous facility in Pensacola, and there’s a lot of growth and expansion,” Barrios said. According to a Pensacola News Journal report from May, there are 3,400 credit union employees in the city and another 2,000 workers are expected to be added by 2016.

The Pensacola office will concentrate on Stirling’s five lines of business: property management, asset management, brokerage, acquisitions and development. While Scott will initially be working with a facilities manager at the office, Barrios said he expects the company will add local brokers and property managers as it expands and grows.
