New Orleans has landed No. 4 on the U.S. News & World Reports list of top affordable travel destinations.

The New Orleans area has a lot to offer, and if this list has any merit, "bang for your buck" can be added to that list.

According to a report from U.S. News and World Report, New Orleans checks in at No. 4 of the best affordable travel destinations in America.

"New Orleans offers visitors a culturally rich getaway with rates that are much tamer than the city's reputation. Budget hotels are housed in historical buildings and eateries serve spicy portions of Cajun cuisine at reasonable prices. Just avoid Mardi Gras if you're not looking to splurge."

The three vacation spots that beat out New Orleans? Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Washington, D.C, which came in at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 respectively. The Nos. 5-7 spots were Charleston, S.C., Savannah, Ga., and Nashville, Tenn., in that order.

The report was based on hotel rankings, vacation rankings, things to do rankings, travel rewards programs rankings and cruise rankings, along with expert opinion and user votes.
