Bail set at more than $100,000 for man accused of firing gun in air at Sportsman’s Park parking lot _lowres

A Donaldsonville man fired a gun into the air at the Sportman’s Park shopping complex off Interstate 10 after an argument with several men in a restaurant escalated into a fight outside, police said.

Ira Lee Williams Jr., 28, and the men had been asked by management to leave the Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant, 2706 S. Cabela’s Parkway, Gonzales, around 9 p.m. Sunday following the argument, Gonzales police said in a news release Monday.

Once outside, the fight began. Williams got a handgun from his vehicle, and he fired shots into the air, police said.

The other men ran away.

Williams, of East Bayou Road, Donaldsonville, was arrested Sunday on counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and discharging a firearm inside the city limits, police said.

Williams remained in Ascension Parish Prison near Donaldsonville on Monday afternoon with bail of $100,289.50, online jail records say.

Charlotte Guedry, police spokeswoman, said Monday police are still investigating the source of the argument. The men were not sitting together at the restaurant, she said.

Officers did not detain nor arrest the other men involved in the fight Sunday since those men had left before police arrived, Guedry said.

She said police are not looking for the men, who did not brandish any sort of weapon. But officers would like more information from them, she said, though they have no information on the men.
