LABADIEVILLE — Assumption Parish sheriff’s deputies confiscated 343 packs of synthetic marijuana recently made illegal by state law, the Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
Two Labadieville convenience stores had already pulled the synthetic marijuana, labeled as “potpourri,” deputies said in a news release. The store proprietors voluntarily turned over the material during a Friday visit with sheriff’s narcotics agents, deputies said.
A combined 460.5 grams of the synthetic marijuana was confiscated, deputies said.
Act 420 went into effect Friday, criminalizing base chemical groups of synthetic marijuana, deputies said. The law also affects compounds in bath salts going under several names, including Ivory Wave, Cloud 9 and White Lightning, deputies said.
Narcotics agents visited stores Friday to warn proprietors, deputies said.
The confiscated inventory will be destroyed once a court order is issued, deputies said.
Those with questions about the banned substances can call the Sheriff’s Office at (985) 369-7281.
