Ascension Parish authorities located Gregory “Toe” Nash — a former professional baseball prospect and convicted sex offender — at a residence off La. 937 shortly after 8 p.m. Friday after receiving several anonymous tips on his whereabouts, Lt. Col. Bobby Webre said in a news release.
Nash, 32, a Sorrento native, gained national attention as a “hidden gem” baseball player in the early 2000s, after he was discovered by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and played for their farm club.
But in 2002, he pleaded guilty to carnal knowledge of a juvenile and spent almost a decade in prison. He was released in 2013.
Authorities had been unable to locate Nash since Jan. 23, when they went to check on an address he had given them in Donaldsonville at 3250 Robinson Lane. They determined he did not live there anymore.
After finding Nash on Friday, deputies booked him into the Ascension Parish Jail on failure to register as a sex offender; flight from an officer; drug paraphernalia; distribution or possession of a legend drug without a prescription; distribution/possession with intent to distribute Schedule I controlled dangerous substances; simple criminal damage to property; trespassing; and unauthorized use of a movable.
Bail has not been set yet.
