NAPOLEONVILLE — Deputies booked a Belle Rose man with assault and battery after he attempted to strangle a woman, and when she escaped, he tried to run her over with his car, Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said.
Herman Knockum, 48, 237 La. 1003, Belle Rose, was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on Monday on counts of aggravated assault, battery and driving under a suspended license, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
The woman called the Sheriff’s Office about 1:30 a.m. Monday, saying she left the Belle Rose residence after Knockum tried to strangle her. Knockum followed her in his car and tried to run over her when he realized she was on the phone with 911, Waguespack said.
Bail for Knockum had not been set by Monday afternoon, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
