GALVEZ – Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office has ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death of a 26-year-old woman found lying on La. 42 early Saturday morning, parish sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies said in a news release Tuesday that Melissa Nicole Barrilleaux had been staying with family in Old Galvez Town Trailer Park and consuming alcohol and pills.

Deputies later learned from the Coroner’s Office that Barrilleaux, whose address was not given, was heavily intoxicated.

A passing motorist spotted Barrilleaux on La. 42 near the trailer park Saturday and stopped to offer help, deputies said.

The woman faintly told the motorist, “Help,” took several faint breaths and stopped breathing, deputies said.

Seconds later an oncoming motorist ran over Barrilleaux’s legs. That motorist also stopped at the scene, deputies said.

Emergency officials gave Barrilleaux cardiopulmonary resuscitation and she was taken to an area hospital but she was pronounced dead, deputies said.
