NAPOLEONVILLE — An Assumption Parish grand jury indicted a Pierre Part man on charges he inappropriately touched two children between the ages of 4 and 13 over a seven-year period, the sheriff said Wednesday.
Kevin Landry, 46, 122 Mam & Pap Drive, was charged Tuesday with two counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile. He then was arrested and booked into the parish Detention Center in Napoleonville, sheriff’s deputies said in a news release.
The youths told sheriff’s investigators that Landry accosted them on several occasions between 2000 and 2007.
Sheriff Mike Waguespack said 23rd Judicial District Attorney Ricky Babin met with detectives and wanted to bring the case to a grand jury first to make a determination. That happened Tuesday at the parish courthouse in Napoleonville.
Babin, who is district attorney for Assumption, Ascension and St. James parishes, declined Wednesday to discuss the grand jury proceedings or the case directly.
But he said it is not uncommon for his office to bring certain kinds of cases directly to a grand jury, including cases involving sex charges and vehicular homicide. The secret proceedings provide a chance for witnesses to testify, Babin said.
Bail for Landry was set at $20,000 and he was released after posting bond, deputies said.
