Two inmates who escaped from the Ascension Parish Jail on Thursday morning were captured a short while later, and the Sheriff’s Office is investigating how the men were able to get out, Sheriff Jeff Wiley said.

Deputies received an anonymous tip from someone who drove by the jail on Lemanville Cuttoff Road in Donaldsonville and noticed what appeared to be two male inmates outside the jail’s security fence, Wiley said in a news release.

The inmates, arrested shortly afterward and charged with escape, are Lionel Caire of New Orleans, being held on counts of false imprisonment, simple criminal damage to property, armed robbery and theft; and Brian Cavalier of Zachary, being held on a count of threatening communications, according to the Sheriff’s Office report.

Cavalier broke his ankle while jumping over the fence and is being treated.
