GALLIANO — A southbound pickup crossed the center line of La. 1 in Lafourche Parish and hit an oncoming truck in a heavy rainstorm Friday, killing one driver and injuring the other, State Police reported.
Curtis Slade, 47, of Galliano, was pronounced dead at the scene by the parish Coroner’s Office, troopers said in a news release.
Slade was driving a 2006 Nissan Titan too fast for the rainy conditions, crossed the centerline and collided with the northbound 2011 Ford pickup shortly before 11:26 a.m. south of West 186th Street, Galliano, troopers said.
Bryan Zeringue, spokesman for Troop C, said in an interview Friday that the speed limit is for ideal conditions and drivers should lower their speed in wet and other bad weather. He said the speed limit on that section of La. 1 is 45 mph.
Richard Hernandez, 31, of Larose, the driver of the Ford, was taken to Lady of the Sea General Hospital in Cut Off for treatment of moderate injuries, troopers said.
Alcohol or drug use is not suspected as a factor in the crash, troopers said.
But toxicology results are pending from the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory and the parish Coroner’s Office, deputies said.
