DONALDSONVILLE — Seven men were arrested Wednesday and accused of participating in illegal drug activity taking place out of a Donaldsonville barbershop, where narcotics detectives found marijuana, Ecstasy and prescription pills, Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley said.
When detectives and State Police served the search warrant, a customer getting his hair cut, along with his 2-year-old son, was allowed to leave.
The Capital II Barber Shop, 413 Mississippi St., Donaldsonville, is licensed to Joseph Nelson, 36, 41063 Cannon Road, Gonzales. He has two employees, Mark August, 29, 3218 Wood Lane, Donaldsonville; and Vernon Mills, 27, 10125 June Road in St. James Parish, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
All three were booked into Ascension Parish Jail on counts of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of Ecstasy, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor, according to the Sheriff’s Office report.
Four others at the business, also were arrested on the same charges:
Levi Lewis, 25, 1040 Nolan St., Donaldsonville
Derrick Nicholas, 17, 603 Houmas St., Donaldsonville
Kenneth Parker, 23, 208 Charles St., Donaldsonville
Anthony Jackson, 20, 614 Houmas St., Donaldsonville. Jackson also was charged with a count of possession of a stolen firearm, after a State Police canine made an alert on Jackson’s vehicle, where a handgun was found.
Bail for the seven arrested had not been set as of Friday afternoon.
